Ageing is a natural part of life and something that many of us dread and hope to avoid. While we cannot prevent the skin from ageing and wrinkles from appearing, we are able to use methods to reduce the signs of ageing and even make us look up to ten years younger.
Anti-wrinkle treatments, also known as botox, are highly effective treatments used to reverse the signs of ageing by relaxing the muscles of the face.
In this guide, we explain everything you need to know about botox treatments, including how long botox takes to work, how long botox lasts, the costs involved, and whether or not botox is safe during pregnancy.
What Is Botox?
Botox is a protein made from Botulinum toxin and has many cosmetic and medical benefits.
Anti-wrinkle injections allow the wrinkles to relax and soften by blocking signals from the nerves to the muscles. This procedure is completely safe and doesn’t harm you in any way, providing you visit a registered professional for your treatments, such as a Hermes London Dental Clinic.
Having botox injected can:
- Relax the muscles in the face
- Smooth out lines and wrinkles
- Reduce the appearance of crow’s feet, frown lines, creases and forehead lines
It can also be used to treat some conditions, including:
- Eye twitching
- Excessive sweating
- Chronic migraines
- Overactive bladder
- Some neurological conditions
Having botox can smooth out the lines and wrinkles on your face, including crow’s feet, frown lines, creases and forehead lines.
Botox is made from botulinum, and when injected, is quick, painless and requires no antiseptic. The treatment will usually only take between 5-10 minutes. As only a small dose is injected, botox can effectively smooth and improve the contours of the face for a more healthy and youthful appearance.
How Long Does Botox Take to Work?
Similar to any other aesthetic treatment, you won’t see the full results straight away.
Botox results will usually be seen between three to seven days after having the treatment. After a week, you’ll be able to see the full skin rejuvenating effects which is when the full results will become apparent.
How Long Does Botox Last?
As with anything, the effects of botox do not last forever and you will need to continue with treatment in order to maintain the effect.
Results typically last for around six months, so we recommend returning to the clinic for a ‘top-up’ every six months for best results, or whenever you feel like you would like a top-up. Of course, the effects of botox can be different for everyone depending on your skin type, so you may even find the results last slightly longer than six months.
When you do notice the effects beginning to wear off, you can book in to see us again for a botox top-up.
Can You Have Botox When Pregnant?
Throughout pregnancy, you will most likely be informed by your midwife, friends and family around you that there are many things you can and can’t do.
While botox is completely safe, there currently is not enough evidence to suggest botox treatment during pregnancy is safe and doesn’t carry risks. We would advise against having botox treatments while pregnant as there may be some risks involved to you and your baby.

How Much Does Botox Cost?
When you visit for your initial consultation, we’ll talk you through the treatment and decide how many areas you wish to have injected based on your desired outcome.
The cost of botox will vary depending on how much you require and how many areas you would like us to treat. To treat one area, our prices start from just £195. Take a look at our updated anti-wrinkle treatment price list for further details on costs.
Botox Aftercare
Similar to any other treatment, there will be some aftercare required following an anti-wrinkle treatment.
On the day of your treatment, we advise against touching, rubbing or applying pressure to the treated area. You should also maintain a normal heart rate, so you will need to avoid physical exercise for at least 24 hours following your treatment.
We do recommend doing facial expressions, such as frowning, smiling and raising your eyebrows.
